Equality: Pain and Pride >>Inequality>Lesson 5>Frame 4

Persuasive Writing:

Write a persuasive paragraph to convince the reader to take your stand on the death penalty.

Pre-writing: Make a web-map of your position. Try to generate as many reasons for and against the death penalty as possible, and then choose four of the most persuasive reasons.

Think about the influence that family, peers, or media have had on your personal position on the death penalty.

Planning: Review the persuasive paragraph checklist.

Drafting: State your position clearly in a topic sentence. (This is your "hook" that tells the reader exactly where you stand in one sentence.)

Organize your points to present in a logical order.

Revising: Send your draft to your assigned peer editor:

When you receive a copy from your classmate, use the peer editing guide to make comments. Return the comments to your peer with a copy to your instructor.

Check the Persuasive Paragraph Writing Rubric to see how your final paragraph will be assessed. Prepare your final paragraph and submit it to your instructor.
